Search for the cost of almost anything and you will find dozens of pages quoting a number without saying where it came from, when it was checked, or what it includes. Often that number is the list price, which is the easiest and least useful part of the answer.

We start from the other end: what a person actually pays, including the items no fee schedule lists. It is slower work and it produces fewer pages, which is precisely why it is worth doing.

The catalogue is a set of version-controlled files, validated on every build by a schema that rejects a guide with no sources, no verification date or no stated method. Pages are generated statically: there is no database to maintain and no admin panel to defend.

We run no advertising trackers, load no third-party scripts, and do not ask for consent to cookies we never set.

We are not paid to place a supplier in a guide or a comparison. If we ever introduce a form of monetisation it will be declared on this page before it appears on the site, and it will not be allowed to influence which figure we publish.

Comparisons always reach a conclusion. We do not avoid saying which option is better, because refusing to conclude is the most comfortable way of pleasing everyone.

If you paid more or less than we say, tell us how much: every guide has a form for it. Reports do not change our figures automatically, but they tell us where to look at the next review.
