Search for the cost of almost anything and you will find dozens of pages quoting a number without saying where it came from, when it was checked, or what it includes. Often that number is the list price, which is the easiest and least useful part of the answer.

We start from the other end: what a person actually pays, including the items no fee schedule lists. It is slower work and it produces fewer pages, which is precisely why it is worth doing.

We may display advertising through Google AdSense, but we are not paid to place a supplier in a guide or comparison. Advertising cannot influence which figure we publish, which sources we cite, or which conclusion a comparison reaches.

Comparisons always reach a conclusion. We do not avoid saying which option is better, because refusing to conclude is the most comfortable way of pleasing everyone.

If you paid more or less than we say, tell us how much: every guide has a form for it. Reports do not change our figures automatically, but they tell us where to look at the next review.
