QuantoCOSTA DAVVERO

Travel and tourism

Travel costs are the most seasonal figures we publish: the same room in Sardinia can cost three times more in August than in May. Every travel guide therefore states the period it refers to, not just an annual average.

How much does a gondola ride in Venice cost?

The gondola is one of the few Italian tourist services with a rate set by a city council: knowing that the EUR 90 covers the boat and not the passenger is what separates a fair price from an inflated one.

How much does the tourist tax in Italy cost?

Frequently asked questions

Is hand luggage really becoming free in Europe?

Partly. The revision of air passenger rights approved by the European Parliament on 7 July 2026, by 646 votes in favour, provides that a personal item of 40x30x15 cm always travels free and strengthens transparency on baggage charges, which must be comparable from the moment you search for a flight. The new rules apply twelve months after publication, so from 2027. It does not mean the overhead trolley becomes free on every airline: it means the minimum piece of luggage cannot be charged for, and the price of everything else has to be visible before you pay.

Does the EUR 18.00 ticket include the arena and the underground?

No, and this is the most common misunderstanding. The EUR 18.00 ticket covers the first and second levels of the Colosseum with the panoramic terraces, the Colosseum Museum, the Roman Forum and the Palatine. The arena and the underground are included only in the Full Experience ticket at EUR 24.00, which is valid for two consecutive days and allows 90 minutes inside the Colosseum rather than 75. There is no surcharge payable on site: they are two separate tickets and the choice is made when booking.

Is the ESTA fee in euros or dollars?

The official fee is in dollars: $40.27. The euro amount depends on the exchange rate at payment time and on any fee charged by your card issuer. That is why this guide does not publish a fixed euro conversion.

Does the EUR 55 fare cover all of central Rome?

No. It covers destinations inside the Aurelian Walls, which do not always match what hotels, listings and maps call central Rome. Some popular districts feel central but sit outside the tariff boundary. If the address is outside, the trip may be metered or fall under the maximum fare for routes inside the GRA ring road.

Why do I see EUR 29 online if the ticket costs EUR 25?

Because the official list distinguishes same-day purchase, at EUR 25, from purchase before the day of entry, at EUR 29. If you book online before your visit, you are in the second case. It is not necessarily a reseller fee; it is part of the official price list.
