€6.49 – €14.74

The price Disney+ showed in its window on 22 July 2026 was EUR 4.99 a month, but that figure held for three months and only for new subscribers. In the fourth month the charge rises to EUR 6.99, and on the higher plans the step is sharper: EUR 7.99 to EUR 10.99, and EUR 10.99 to EUR 15.99. Someone subscribing during the promotion therefore pays, across the first twelve months, an effective average of EUR 6.49 a month on the ad plan, EUR 10.24 on Standard and EUR 14.74 on Premium: always more than the advertised figure and always less than the full list. The gap is not a trick — the conditions sit on the same page — but it is enough to make the advertised price useless for deciding. The number to decide on is the standing price, or better still the annual one, which does not change after three months.

Short answer

Disney+ is the streaming service that most often advertises a promotional price instead of its price list: the figure in the window lasts three or six months, the real one arrives afterwards, and the annual payment is worth two months of discount that almost nobody takes.

Disney+ is the case where the advertised price and the price paid are two different numbers for most of the year, because the service runs almost continuously on promotion. On 22 July 2026 the Italian page offered the first three months at EUR 4.99, 7.99 and 10.99 with the offer closing on 28 July; a week earlier, a specialist review described an entirely different promotion, six months at EUR 5.99, 8.99 and 11.99. The standing prices, meanwhile, had not moved: EUR 6.99, 10.99 and 15.99 a month. That means the advertised figure is a poor guide to what the subscription will cost, while the list price buried in the conditions is a good one. There is a second feature that separates Disney+ from its competitors: the two ad-free plans can be paid once a year, at EUR 109.90 and EUR 159.90, saving EUR 21.98 and EUR 31.98 respectively against twelve monthly charges. It is one of the few occasions in the subscription world where paying everything up front genuinely and verifiably pays.

How the price breaks down

How the price breaks down: Subscribing to Disney+ in Italy
Standard with adsThe standing price of the entry plan, with ad breaks and up to Full HD on two devices. It cannot be bought annually: it is charged month by month only.Compulsoryper month€6.99
Standard without adsThe same catalogue as the ad plan, without interruptions. An annual form also exists at EUR 109.90, equivalent to EUR 9.16 a month.Optionalper month€10.99
Premium4K, HDR and four simultaneous devices. The annual form costs EUR 159.90, which is EUR 13.33 a month: the largest proportional saving on the list.Optionalper month€15.99
Standard, annual formA single payment up front for twelve months: EUR 109.90 against EUR 131.88 for twelve monthly payments. The saving is EUR 21.98, a little under two months.Optionalper year€110
Premium, annual formEUR 159.90 against EUR 191.88 for twelve monthly payments: EUR 31.98 saved, exactly two months of subscription.Optionalper year€160

What the price depends on

  • The plan chosen, which moves annual spend from EUR 83.88 to EUR 191.88
  • The payment form, monthly or annual, worth two months of difference
  • Whether a promotion is running when you subscribe, and how long it lasts
  • Tolerance for advertising, which separates EUR 6.99 from EUR 10.99 a month
  • Whether 4K is actually usable, since it is the only thing Premium adds beyond simultaneous devices

Hidden costs

  • The automatic step from the promotional price to the full one at the end of the third or sixth month, raising the charge by thirty to forty per cent with no prominent notice
  • Automatic monthly renewal, which continues through months when the app is never opened
  • Giving up the annual discount out of habit: two months lost every year
  • The inability to pay annually on the ad-supported plan, which therefore has no discount available at all
  • The pile-up with other video subscriptions already running in the household, which are rarely counted together

Three realistic scenarios

Economy scenario

€6.49

The ad-supported plan taken on promotion: three months at EUR 4.99 and nine at EUR 6.99, which is EUR 77.88 in the first year and an average of EUR 6.49 a month. From the second year the cost settles at EUR 83.88.

Typical scenario

€9.16

The Standard plan paid annually at EUR 109.90, which is EUR 9.16 a month: no surprise when a promotion ends, and EUR 21.98 saved against twelve monthly charges.

Premium scenario

€15.99

The Premium plan paid month by month at EUR 15.99, EUR 191.88 a year, for a household watching in 4K on four devices. The annual form would have saved exactly two months.

How to spend less

  1. If you already know you will keep Disney+ for a year, take the annual form: EUR 109.90 instead of EUR 131.88 on Standard and EUR 159.90 instead of EUR 191.88 on Premium, two months free.
  2. Do not let the promotional price drive the decision: always work out three discounted months plus nine full ones, which is what the first year actually costs.
  3. Put the promotion end date in your calendar: it is the moment to decide whether to stay, change plan or cancel, and the only moment when that decision is a conscious one.
  4. If you only want Disney+ for one seasonal series, take the ad-supported plan for the months you need it: with no annual commitment, cancelling carries no penalty.
  5. Check whether Disney+ is already inside a bundle you pay for elsewhere before subscribing directly: the overlap is common and nobody flags it.
  6. Consider the ad plan if you mainly watch children's content: interruptions matter less on short programmes and the saving is EUR 48 a year against Standard.

Frequently asked questions

How much does Disney+ cost per year in Italy?

It depends on the form. Paying monthly, the ad plan comes to EUR 83.88 a year, Standard to EUR 131.88 and Premium to EUR 191.88. Choosing annual payment, available only on the ad-free plans, Standard costs EUR 109.90 and Premium EUR 159.90. The difference is EUR 21.98 on Standard and EUR 31.98 on Premium, roughly two months in each case: it is the largest discount Disney+ grants, and it needs no promotion at all.

Is the promotional price the one I will actually pay?

No, and this is the most important feature of the Disney+ price list. On 22 July 2026 the Italian page showed EUR 4.99, 7.99 and 10.99 a month, but for the first three months only and with the offer closing on 28 July. From the fourth month the charge moves automatically to EUR 6.99, 10.99 and 15.99. Eight days earlier a different promotion was running, over six months and at different amounts. The standing price, by contrast, stayed the same: that is the number to reason with.

Is it worth paying for Disney+ annually?

Yes, if you are reasonably sure of keeping it for twelve months. Annual Standard costs EUR 109.90 against EUR 131.88 for twelve monthly charges, and Premium EUR 159.90 against EUR 191.88: both save roughly two months. The trade-off is that you pay everything up front and there is no pro-rata refund if you change your mind. The ad-supported plan has no annual form, so for that plan the choice does not exist.

What is the difference between Standard and Premium?

The catalogue is identical: neither plan unlocks content the other lacks. There are two differences, both technical. Premium allows playback on four simultaneous devices instead of two, and reaches 4K with HDR and Dolby Atmos audio where the content supports it. It costs five euros a month more, sixty euros a year. If nobody in the house watches on more than two screens at once and the television is not 4K, that difference produces no visible effect.

Can I cancel Disney+ at any time?

Yes on the monthly form: you can cancel whenever you like and the subscription runs to the end of the period already paid for, with no penalty and no reactivation charge. The annual form works differently: you pay twelve months up front, and cancelling stops the renewal but does not produce a pro-rata refund for the unused period. That is why the annual form is worth taking only when the use is already certain.

Do promotions apply to former subscribers?

No. Disney+ entry offers are reserved for new subscribers and for people who cancelled long enough ago, and require the subscriber to be an adult. Anyone with a live subscription keeps paying the standing price, and a change of plan always happens at the full list price. Cancelling in order to re-subscribe immediately and capture the discount generally does not work, because the condition on prior membership is checked at sign-up.

Sources and methodology

How we worked it out

The standing and promotional prices were read on 22 July 2026 from the Italian Disney+ subscription page, which shows both: the first prominently, the second in the offer conditions. They are reported separately and never blended into an average. The real first-year cost is a stated calculation: three months at the promotional price plus nine at the full price, divided by twelve. The monthly-versus-annual comparison is arithmetic on list prices, not an estimate. Bundles combining Disney+ with other services through telecoms operators are excluded, because their price cannot be separated out. A journalistic source of 14 July 2026 is used solely to document that promotions change within days.

Why this confidence level

The prices come from the Disney+ subscription page for Italy, read on the day of publication, which is the best source available for a commercial price list. Confidence is high on the level of the standing prices, which an independent review from eight days earlier also reports. It is deliberately lower on the promotional part, which by definition moves: the offer live on 22 July 2026 expired on 28 July, and the one described on 14 July was already different. That is why the first-year cost is presented as an explicit calculation on a dated promotion rather than as a stable price.
